Children's Dentistry at Thorncliffe Family Dental in Calgary, AB

As recommended by Canadian Dental Association, children should visit the dentist as soon as their first tooth becomes a part of their smile. At Thorncliffe Family Dental, we provide services for children in Calgary to help them enjoy strong and healthy smiles as they grow older. If you’re looking for a dentist to care for your children, we invite you to contact our office to speak to a member of our team. We take treatment at your child’s pace and do all we can to ensure they are comfortable with our dentists and staff.

Children's Dentistry - Small Child with hand in mouth

Dental Care for Children in Calgary

While it’s important to care for children’s teeth as soon as they emerge through the gum line, your child’s first visit to Thorncliffe Family Dental does not have to start with a cleaning. Dr. James Peng provides what is called a happy visit, where children are given a tour of the practice, meet our dentist and staff, and have their teeth counted while their parents are with them in the treatment room.

After we get your child used to our office and team, we use stuffed animals to demonstrate proper oral care, including brushing and flossing. We can even use mom and dad’s teeth as examples! If you have kids as young as six months old, Dr. Peng provides counseling on food choices and what you can do to help them develop healthy dental habits.

Depending on your child’s age and stage of dental development, our children’s dental services can include an examination to check for caries and instruction on proper hygiene habits. To help make teeth cleanings fun and easy, we use cherry flavoured toothpaste as well as offer free tooth brushes and prizes after visits.

Dental Fillings and Emergency Dental Appointments for Kids

Children's Dentistry - Small Boy hugs woman outside-both are smiling

Thorncliffe Family Dental provides emergency dental care for kids in Calgary, as well as fillings for pediatric cavities. Children who are particularly active are more prone to breaking or damaging permanent teeth. We care for kids’ dental emergencies after falls, spills, or sports injuries. Our dentist treats small chips and cracks with dental bonding using the same composite material that makes up the fillings we provide. Dr. Peng also cares for more severe dental trauma on a case-by-case basis.

If a cavity is detected during your child’s routine examination, we use tooth-coloured material to keep their smile healthy and prevent the spread of bacteria.
